    About Audemars Piguet

In 1875 Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, united by their passion for vintage haute horlogerie, made the decision to combine their knowledge to produce watches with great complexity in the Joux Valley, the strategic location of Swiss haute horlogerie.

His determination, imagination and discipline allowed ambitious young people to achieve success and fame in record time. Towards 1885, the two partners opened a new branch in Geneva and in 1889, they established commercial relations with Paris, on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition. There they had the opportunity to present several pocket watches with great complications. From that moment, it followed a wide trajectory full of successes.

In 1921, they launched the first wristwatch with jumping hours and rotating minutes, in 1925 the pocket watch Equation of Time that became one of the known models of the house. In 1972, Audemars Piguet watches presented its iconic Royal Oak model, the first high-end sports watch produced in steel. This fact may seem insignificant, but the fact is that in the decade of the seventies, it was quite a revolution to produce a sports watch in stainless steel. Designed by Gerald Genta, this is undoubtedly the flagship of the house. On the eve of the Basel Fair in 1971, Gerald Genta received a telephone call at 4 pm from which, at that time, he was managing director of Audemars Piguet: Georges Golay. “The Italian market expects an unprecedented steel watch,” he said, “so we need the design for tomorrow. A sports watch for all occasions with the most beautiful finishes ever seen”. Thus, the unmistakable design of the Royal Oak was suddenly born.

Inspired by this model, Audemars Piguet watches has created many variants and models due to its great success. In 1986, the Manufacture made the first ultra-flat tourbillon watch with automatic movement, still today, the thinnest in the world. In 1995 he presented the first watch Great complication with automatic movement.

To highlight also the variety of models within the Royal Oak Offshore range, conceived with a sportier touch and usually larger dimensions. This is characterized by the use of innovative materials such as rubber for the bezel and the chronograph buttons in some models, or the use of titanium or carbon fiber for the boxes of some of their references. The limited editions of this line inspired by actors, pilots or the world of sports have always been a resounding success. To emphasize the series Arnold Schwartzenegger, Rubens Barrichello or the well-known Alinghi.

At present, Audemars Piguet watches is still the oldest Haute Horlogerie manufacture that has not abandoned the patrimony of the founding families. In November 2008, Audemars Piguet marked the history of watchmaking again. The prestigious Grand Prix del’Horlogerie de Geneve awarded for the first time since its creation, 3 prizes to the same Manufacture: – Prize “Jewel Watch” for the Millenary Pianoforte model. – “Complete Calendar Clock” Award for the Jules Audemars Equation of Time model. – “Watchmaker-Designer” Award for the brilliant Giulio Papi, co-founder of Audemars Piguet-Renaud & Papi. So, this great family business, is still a pioneer in innovation and design, and from its workshops, watches continue to come out with the most recognized complications in the world.
